A Successful Dvd Business Means Picking Good Dvd Titles

Everyone gets excited about new release dvds. Personally, I don't like new release dvds. I consider them high demand low profit items. They are at a premium for everyone. My goal is to make $2 - $3 per dvd. I've found I only make this same $2 - $3 on a new release dvd that cost me $15 - $19. I would much rather make the same $2 - $3 on a movie that cost me $6 - $8.

I like the movies that are around two or three years old. These are the dvd's that I look into. I understand that the titles that you choose to sell are totally up to you, but in my opinion I prefer the older ones. It is imperative that you spend a little time researching the titles that you want to buy so that you can ensure that you are not stuck with a lot of unwanted dvd's.

What I normally do is tell all of my customers to research the top dvd sellers on Ebay. Just take a look at their past auctions and see what type of dvd's they are selling. What you will find is that these guys never sell new releases.

WHAT DVD TITLES SHOULD I SELL?

The best thing that you can do when picking dvd titles to sell is to research the titles. You can do an advanced search on Ebay to research top selling titles. Just refine your search to the top seller's (as mentioned above) and find out what titles sell.

Don't limit yourself to just looking at the auctions of these top sellers. If you browse the dvd category on Ebay, you'll find lots of sellers to take a look at.

When I find a title that is a good seller I add it to my "Buy List." As you do this you will see that the list of sellers will grow tremendously. The process may seem slow at first, but after a few weeks you should have a fairly large list.

My recommendation is that you devote between 5 and 10 hours a week just researching titles and adding them to your Buy List. By the end of your first week you may very well generate around 100 titles. Then after about a month, you will see that you have a few hundred good selling dvd titles.

I have the "Buy List," but I also have a "Do not Buy List" as well. Some titles will wear out their welcome and their sales will begin to drop dramatically. I then refine my Do Not Buy List, and add these titles to it so that I no longer buy them.

Another Great Point

You cannot make money on every title. Your goal is to find the titles you can make money on. Don't waste your time researching titles you like or you "think" will be good sellers. Instead, research your cost on the titles you see the big sellers have sold. When you find a title that is selling over and over determine if you can buy it low enough to make $2 - $3. If so, you have a good title for your buy list.
